Let's gather to celebrate the power of community and honor NSBA Past President Gary Wild! As a lawyer, Gary was zealous in protecting the rights of the less fortunate. Each year, NSBA presents an award to organizations that exemplify Gary's character and interests.

Congratulations to This Year's Honorees

Hel.LAS

Hellenic Legal Assistance Services (“Hel.LAS”) is a pro bono legal aid clinic created in 2016 to serve the legal needs of low-income members of the Chicago area’s Greek community. Hel.LAS stands as a beacon of legal assistance and community empowerment within the vibrant Greek diaspora of Chicago. Our clinic provides Greek Americans with access to legal information, referrals, and potential representation in a linguistically and culturally sensitive environment.

At the heart of our mission lies a commitment to bridging linguistic and cultural gaps, fostering an environment where every individual feels heard, understood, and empowered.

Our parent organization, Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (“CVLS”) has called the upstart clinic “just a well-run machine.” During the pandemic, many clinics were unable to maintain their volunteer base and were forced to close down. Together with our partners- CVLS, the Hellenic Bar Association, the Hellenic Foundation, and our loyal volunteers, we have been able to assist a record number of clients. To date, our efforts have helped more than 500 families.

As we humbly accept this award, we do so with gratitude for the opportunity to serve, and with a renewed commitment to continue championing the rights and dignity of our fellow community members for years to come.

WINGS Program, Inc.
The mission of WINGS Program, Inc. is to provide housing, integrated services, education, and advocacy to end domestic violence. As the largest provider of domestic violence services in Illinois, WINGS offers survivors a continuum of resources across Metropolitan Chicago.

Since 1985, WINGS has continued to break the cycle of violence and create new opportunities for women, men, and children. WINGS impactful solutions include two safehouses, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, children and family services, community-based counseling, mentoring, and more. As a result, hundreds of survivors change their lives annually. Of clients completing an exit survey from WINGS Safe House and Housing programs, 99% reported not returning to their abuser.
